The HP Pavilion Arena is San Jose's modern indoor arena and home to the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL). The facility is affectionately known as the "Shark Tank" or simply "The Tank".
The arena opened in 1993 and was originally named the Compaq Center at San Jose. In 2002, it was renamed to the HP Pavilion when Hewlett-Packard acquired Compaq.
In addition to hosting major league hockey, the HP Pavilion Arena hosts many other sporting and commercial events. It is also used by the San Jose SaberCats of the AFL.
